Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the 6th chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

This followed the completion of the tenure of Prof. Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who served meritoriously as the fifth  chancellor of the university.

This was disclosed in a  statement on Sunday by Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Emmanuel Fanu.

The appointment is made pursuant to the provisions of the LASU  Law 2004 (As amended), Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1, which empowers the Visitor to appoint the chancellor of the university.  

The appointment is for a single term of five  years, effective from Friday, 13th February 2026  and is renewable once.

Top officials of the university including the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has  congratulated Oba Ogunsanwo on his  appointment and look forward to his impactful leadership in advancing the vision and mission of the institution.

The  state government and the entire university community appreciate the  contributions of Prof. Elias   and the dignity with which he represented the university throughout his tenure.
