Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated Irele Tower, the first commercial building within the Lagos Free Zone, describing it as a major step towards strengthening the state’s economic infrastructure.
The nine-storey, EDGE-certified building, located in the Lekki corridor, is designed to serve as a hub for office and retail activities, while promoting sustainability through reduced energy and water consumption.
Sanwo-Olu said the project aligns with his administration’s THEMES agenda aimed at positioning Lagos as a 21st-century economy driven by industrial growth and private sector investment.
He noted that developments such as Irele Tower would unlock the economic potential of the Ibeju-Lekki axis, especially with the presence of key projects like the Lekki Deep Sea Port.
“The commissioning of Irele Tower is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved through strong collaboration between the public and private sectors. This development enhances the infrastructure profile of the Lagos Free Zone and strengthens our vision of making Lagos a preferred destination for investment,” he said.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to partnerships that drive sustainable urban development, job creation, and an improved business environment.
In her remarks, Adesuwa Ladoja, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Free Zone, said the project reflects efforts to build an integrated business ecosystem supported by modern infrastructure and efficient logistics.
She explained that the tower was developed to meet the rising demand for premium commercial spaces, driven by increasing investor interest in the Lekki axis.
“The commissioning of Irele Tower represents a defining milestone in our journey to build a world-class industrial and commercial hub,” she said, adding that the facility sets a new benchmark for quality workspace in the zone.
Developed as a green building, Irele Tower achieves about a 26 per cent reduction in energy use and 46 per cent in water consumption, leveraging EDGE certification by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group.
With a gross floor area of about 12,000 square metres, the tower offers office and retail spaces, parking facilities, shared workspaces, and a rooftop cafeteria, aimed at supporting seamless business operations within the fast-growing economic corridor.
