The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside the Pioneer Chairman of ECWA Lagos Central District Church Council, Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Babatunde Omidina, and other prominent guests, will attend the 2026 Inter-Denominational Divine Service of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter.
Themed “Immanuel: God with Us,” the service draws inspiration from Matthew 1:23 and centres on the assurance of divine presence and hope. It is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, LAWNA Territorial Headquarters, Olorunda, Ketu, Lagos.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing, the Lagos State Chairman of CAN, Stephen Adegbite, acknowledged prevailing national challenges, including economic pressures, rising inflation, and structural reforms impacting many Nigerians.

He stated that these concerns are being addressed through policy measures introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at stabilising the economy, strengthening institutions, and positioning the country for sustainable growth.
“There are emerging indicators that some of these interventions are beginning to yield results. As a Christian body, we urge patience, constructive civic engagement, and sustained prayers for the President and those entrusted with leadership at the federal level,” Adegbite said.

He described the Inter-Denominational Divine Service as a spiritual convocation that transcends denominational lines, bringing together Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal, Evangelical and African Instituted Churches in collective intercession for Lagos State and the nation.
According to him, the declaration “Immanuel” represents both a promise and an affirmation that God remains present with His people amid economic strain, social pressures, governance challenges, and personal uncertainties.

“It will be a moment of intercession, thanksgiving, and renewed commitment. We shall pray for Lagos State, for Mr. Governor and his team, for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government, and for all institutions responsible for the well-being of our people. We shall also call upon citizens to embrace peace, righteousness, unity, and responsible citizenship,” he said.
Adegbite reaffirmed CAN Lagos’ commitment to promoting harmony, justice, accountability, and godly values in society, stressing that the Church must continue to serve as a moral compass, stabilising force, and beacon of hope.
He called on Christians across the state to participate in large numbers, while also inviting all residents of goodwill to join in seeking God’s presence and direction for the state and the nation.
As part of the State of the Church address, the CAN chairman also announced the completion of a brand-new Secretariat for the Lagos State Chapter, located at Otunba Jobi-Fela Way, beside Regency Hall, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos. The facility is scheduled for official opening on Saturday morning ahead of the Inter-Denominational Divine Service.
“The building of this Secretariat was a promise made by the Lagos CAN leadership under my humble stewardship. To the glory of God, that promise has been fulfilled. This Secretariat stands as a symbol of unity, administrative strength, accountability, and renewed vision for the Christian community in Lagos State,” he said.
Adegbite expressed profound appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Kadir Hamzat; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; the Secretary to the State Government, Barr.
