The national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Professor Abubakar Gombe, has expressed confidence that the party’s candidates will outperform rivals in the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

Addressing supporters at the grand finale of the party’s campaign rally in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Gombe said the SDP is poised for victory across the six area councils, citing what he described as the competence and credibility of its candidates.

He assured residents of the FCT that the party would justify their trust, characterising the SDP as welfare-driven and people-oriented.

Gombe urged voters to turn out in large numbers, remain peaceful, and safeguard their votes until the final results are announced. He said the party’s programmes and the response from the electorate provide a strong basis for optimism.

The party chairman also commended the SDP chairmanship candidate in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Dr. Obinna Simon, noting that he has demonstrated commitment to community development through a personal foundation supporting indigent residents.

According to him, if Simon could deploy personal resources to assist vulnerable members of the community, his leadership as Area Council Chairman would broaden such interventions for the benefit of all residents.

In his remarks, former SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo urged Nigerians to demand accountability from leaders at all levels.

He criticized what he described as poor leadership at the national level, saying it has negatively affected public services and economic stability.

Adebayo stressed that the government exists to serve the people and called for transparency in elections, including proper transmission of results.

He also warned against fiscal irresponsibility, noting that excessive borrowing and poorly managed projects place heavy burdens on future generations.

The SDP Chairmanship candidate for AMAC, Dr. Obinna Simon, declared that residents are ready for a new era of inclusive and accountable governance.

The chairmanship hopeful noted that AMAC belongs to all residents, both indigenes and non-indigenes, and must be administered fairly and equitably.

He pledged to prioritize functional public schools, improved primary healthcare, youth empowerment, and transparent budgeting.

The candidate assured residents that an SDP-led administration would focus on practical service delivery, strengthen public institutions, and ensure that leadership is earned through service.

Simon reaffirmed his commitment to building an AMAC anchored on social justice, transparency, and sustainable development.
