The Alayemore of Ido-Osun, Oba Oyetunde Ishola Jokotola has lauded President Bola Tinubu for approving the recruitment of 50,000 policemen into the Nigeria Police Force.

He described the move as a timely intervention to strengthen security architecture and address rising concerns over safety across the country.

The monarch during visitation to his palace by members of the Police Service Commission, led by the Southwest representative, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), who are monitoring ongoing training for new police intakes, noted that the president has shown that he is serious about security.

His words, “I want to commend the PSC for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police officers, I appreciate President Bola Tinubu for approving such huge number. It's unprecedented and it shows his commitment to filling the gaps in the police force.”

Oba Jokotola, who was a police chief before ascending the throne of his forebears, honoured DIG Lakanu with an honorary title of Aare Gbobaniyi of Ido-Osun Alayemore Kingdom.

He also described Lakanu as a man who has dedicated his lifetime to service for Nigeria both as a police officer and as chairman of the police service commission.

Responding to the gesture, DIG Lakanu expressed happiness over the conferment of the title and also charged community leaders to encourage their wards and youths to join the police force.

“Most importantly, we realised that that youths are not interested in joining the police force again. It may not be their fault but I want to charge you to encourage them. Let's galvanize them to be part of the system. A day is coming when we will need them but if they are not there now, we will not see them," Lakanu said.
