Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Vice Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, Rector, Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, Dr. Nihinlola Dosumu and others have sought gender balance, inclusiveness and equal representation for women.

They said women had capacity and potential to thrive and attain any feat like their male counterparts if given the opportunity.

Speaking at a programme organised yesterday by the Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN), Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo, to commemorate 2026 International Women’s Day, Sunmonu advised women to be ready to take leadership roles.

She lamented that although women are vulnerable, despite their vulnerability, they can develop themselves and prove they can attain any feat.

Sunmonu, who called on more women to join politics as 2027 general election is near, said they should demonstrate they have goodwill and ability to thrive in their chosen fields.

In her keynote address titled: “Right, Justice and Action for Women Safety at their Workplaces”,  Oduwole urged women to be united and support themselves, to move forward.

She said: “Let us educate our girls and ladies to ensure they get to the top and for them to stay at the top. They should strive to get to the top because it is possible for them to get there just as their male counterparts.”

Dosumu, the chairperson of the event, said women needed to be resilient in whatever they did.

Highlights of the event include conferment of “Iconic Woman of the Year” award on Senator Sunmonu.
