Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday commissioned a suite of multibillion-naira projects at the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri, applauding Governor Babagana Zulum for what he described as impressive governance and delivery of democratic dividends.

The projects inaugurated include a newly built presidential lodge, a state-of-the-art Government House Clinic, a new Governor’s Office Complex, a protocol office, and a Jumaat Mosque within the Government House premises.

Shettima, who was conducted round the facilities after a briefing by the Acting Chief of Staff to the Governor, Engr. Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe expressed satisfaction with the quality of work executed by the Zulum administration.

In a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima noted that Governor Zulum, who succeeded him in office, had lived up to expectations, maintaining a strong record of stewardship and commitment to the welfare of the people of Borno State.

“I am proud that my successor has not disappointed in terms of good governance and the delivery of dividends of democracy,” Shettima said, adding that the projects were part of broader developmental strides recorded across the state.

At the Government House Clinic, the Chief Medical Director of the Borno State Hospital Management Board, Prof. Abubakar Ali Kullima, briefed the Vice President on the facility’s capabilities, describing it as a modern health centre designed to serve over 2,000 Government House staff and their families.

According to him, the clinic would significantly reduce the need for staff to seek medical attention outside the complex, thereby saving productive time and improving access to healthcare.

“Staff members are well over 2,000, even without their family members. A lot of productive time is wasted attending to their health needs in distant facilities,” Kullima said.

He explained that the clinic is equipped with comprehensive medical services, including antenatal care, delivery rooms, a theatre suite for surgical procedures, diagnostic centres, and a one-stop laboratory.

Kullima added that the facility is designed for short-term patient care of between 24 and 48 hours, with arrangements in place for referrals to nearby hospitals for extended treatment where necessary.

The Vice President also joined Governor Zulum and other dignitaries for the first Jumaat prayers at the newly constructed Government House Mosque.

Other top officials present at the commissioning included the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, members of the National and State Assemblies, traditional rulers, and senior government officials.
