Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday paid a condolence visit to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over the death of his mother, Hajiya Fatima Umma El-Rufai, urging Nigerians to embrace unity beyond political differences.

The Vice President, who visited the El-Rufai family at their Abuja residence, described the loss as painful and prayed for the repose of the soul of the late matriarch.

According to a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima also called for collective efforts toward strengthening national cohesion, stressing the need for unity in the face of shared challenges.

Hajiya Fatima Umma El-Rufai died on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, at the age of 96.

During the visit, Shettima offered prayers for the deceased and comforted members of the bereaved family, noting that her long life was worthy of gratitude and reflection.

The Vice President was received by prominent figures, including former Bauchi State Governor, Ahmad Adamu Muazu; former Chief of Army Staff, Abdurrahman Dambazau; Abdullahi Sarkin Gobir Adiya; and the member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, Bello El-Rufai, alongside other family members and associates.
