As 2026 Ramadan begins, Muslims worldwide will abstain from food, drink, and other activities from dawn to sunset for 29 or 30 days. This sudden change in routine can be challenging, especially in hot climates, leading to dehydration, headaches, and fatigue.

Here are six practical tips to help you stay hydrated during Ramadan:

1. Space out water intake strategically: Drink water gradually from iftar to bedtime and again at suhoor, rather than consuming large quantities at once.

2. Break your fast with water first: Replenish lost fluids and support digestion before eating heavier meals.

3. Include high water content foods: Eat fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, and pineapples to help stay hydrated.

4. Reduce salt intake and processed food: Limit sodium-rich foods that can increase thirst and dehydration.

5. Do not skip suhoor: Eat a nutritious pre-dawn meal to help maintain hydration and energy levels.

6. Manage physical activities and heat exposure: Limit strenuous activities, stay in cool environments, and wear breathable clothing to minimise fluid loss.
