Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as exceptional and resilient leadership aimed at national prosperity, development and stability.

“Tinubu is putting the nation on the right path of growth,” the governor said.

Aliyu made the remark at the opening of the 2026 Caliphate Bar Law Week in Sokoto, themed “Secured Nation, Secured Future.”

He noted that the President has been piloting the affairs of the country with diligence, patriotism and vision, adding that his commitment to nation-building remains unmatched and firmly on course.

The governor described the Bar Week as an inspiring professional gathering his administration strongly identifies with, reiterating his government’s commitment to the rule of law.

He said the cordial relationship between the state government and the legal profession has continued to strengthen efforts to enhance justice delivery in Sokoto.

According to him, this is evident in the routine promotion of judicial officers and the execution of projects designed to create a conducive working environment for the judiciary.

Aliyu disclosed that his administration has recruited 14 new judges, seven each for the State High Court and the Shari’ah Court of Appeal.

He added that the government has provided brand new vehicles for judges, awarded a N4 billion contract for the construction of a High Court complex, rehabilitated the Shari’ah Court of Appeal, and constructed three additional offices at the state Ministry of Justice.

Speaking at the event, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), praised the cordial relationship among the three arms of government in the state, describing it as a model worthy of emulation.

He said the governor’s approach to governance reflects maturity and a commitment to good governance.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, commended the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the state for promoting the rule of law and acknowledging the government’s support.

Chairman of the occasion, Justice Mohammed Sa’idu Sifawa, lauded the NBA’s contributions to strengthening the justice system and commended the governor for supporting both the Bar and the Bench.

Similarly, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Nasiru Muhammad Binji, praised the governor for upholding the rule of law and promoting financial prudence and accountability in governance.

He added that the welfare of Ministry of Justice staff has received prompt attention under the administration.

In her address, the state NBA Chairperson, Barrister Rasheedat Muhammad, described the governor as “the people’s governor,” citing his commitment to development and strong support for the legal profession.

She noted that over 300 participants registered for the event, which also featured the launch of the Caliphate Law Journal.

The governor donated N30 million to support the initiative and was conferred with an “Exceptional Leadership Award” in recognition of his contributions.

Responding, Aliyu expressed appreciation to the NBA for the honour, stating that the recognition would further motivate him to do more for the association, the state and humanity at large.
