Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has commissioned a newly completed one-kilometre road leading to the Nigerian Naval Outpost in Onitsha–Odekpe Community, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The project, constructed by Ezinifite-born industrialist, High Chief Dr. Amb. Anthony Ikenna Obele, was inaugurated on Friday, April 17, 2026, transforming a previously flood-prone and impassable route into a functional access road.

Represented by the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, the governor, described the project as a significant intervention that goes beyond physical infrastructure.

He noted that “development doesn’t only come from the government,” adding that the success of Public-Private Community Partnership (PPCP) in Anambra continues to demonstrate that shared responsibility is key to sustainable progress.

Also speaking, the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral SD Ibrahim, highlighted the strategic importance of the road to naval operations. He explained that poor access had previously affected response time and logistics, stressing that the new road would enhance efficiency and security.

According to him, the project is “increasing property value, improving security, and ultimately bringing development to the host community.”

In his remarks, Obele said his motivation for undertaking the project was rooted in service to the people.

He stated that the initiative was driven by “the simple principle of putting the Anambra people first,” emphasizing that development efforts must extend beyond government and be supported through private sector collaboration.

The project adds to Obele’s growing portfolio of infrastructure interventions. In January 2026, a five-kilometre road he constructed in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area, was commissioned by Governor Soludo, further highlighting the role of private individuals in complementing government efforts.

Residents of Odekpe have welcomed the development, noting improved mobility, easier access for traders and commuters, and enhanced economic activities within the area.

The commissioning ceremony concluded with a reception at Zobis Cable Industries, where community leaders, including His Serene Highness, High Chief Jude E. Okasili (Oduma Inyele VIII of Odekpe Ancient Kingdom), commended Obele for his contribution to community development and conferred on him the symbolic title of “Field Marshal.”
