The South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA) has sponsored Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination registration fees for 10,000 students in Ebonyi State.
The group doled out the funds on Tuesday in Abakaliki, capital of the state.
It said the gesture is a major educational support initiative aimed at expanding access to higher education opportunities.
The event drew stakeholders, education advocates, community leaders, parents, and students from across the state’s 13 local government areas and 171 wards.
In his welcome address, the State Coordinator of SERHA, James Eze Alaka (JP), described the intervention as part of the group’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development.
It said the project is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Alaka, the initiative is designed to ensure that no qualified student is denied the opportunity to further their education due to financial constraints.
He noted that each beneficiary received ₦8,500 to cover registration costs, describing the gesture as “an investment in the future of the South East and Nigeria at large.”

He recalled previous empowerment programmes carried out by SERHA, including the zonal empowerment programme in Owerri in December 2024 and subsequent distributions of vehicles, motorcycles, grinding machines, hair dryers, food items, and other materials across Ebonyi State in 2025.
Alaka also commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for complementing federal efforts through education-focused policies, including the sponsorship of over 1,000 postgraduate students at home and abroad.
Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of SERHA, Belusochukwu Enwere, described the programme as more than just examination registration support.
“Today is not just about registration for an examination. It is about unlocking doors of opportunity. It is about investing in the future and empowering a generation that will shape the destiny of our state and nation,” he said.
Enwere emphasized that education remains the most powerful tool for national development.
He praised President Tinubu’s administration for implementing reforms aimed at stabilizing the education sector, including the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to improve access to tertiary education.
He urged the beneficiaries not to take the opportunity for granted but to study diligently and strive for excellence.
“To our dear students, this is your stepping stone to greater heights. Prepare with focus and discipline. The future belongs to those who prepare for it today,” he advised.
He urged parents and guardians to continue supporting their children’s academic pursuits, while stakeholders applauded the initiative as a timely intervention to reduce the financial burden on families.
They noted that the programme is part of SERHA’s broader efforts to promote inclusive development, youth empowerment, and educational advancement across the South East geopolitical zone.
Observers say the sponsorship of examination fees for 10,000 students marks one of the largest single education support interventions in Ebonyi State in recent times, reinforcing the Renewed Hope Agenda’s focus on human capital development.
