The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has announced the appointment of renowned sports media expert Samuel Ahmadu as her Special Assistant on Media.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, is a strategic move to overhaul the Commission’s communication framework. In this capacity, Ahmadu will lead efforts to enhance public engagement and ensure transparent dissemination of the FCC’s mandate, policies, and national activities.
Ahmadu is a titan in the media industry, most notably recognized as a three-time Nigeria Pitch Awards Football Journalist of the Year. His new brief involves: Providing high-level media support to the Executive Chairman as well as overseeing the Commission’s digital platforms and press relations and developing communication initiatives to bridge the gap between the Commission and its stakeholders.

With nearly two decades of experience, Ahmadu’s career spans the pinnacle of national and international journalism. A former African correspondent for Goal.com, he currently serves as Managing Editor of SavidNews and the Nigeria Football Newspaper. His expertise is not limited to sports; he notably contributed to the coverage of Nigeria’s 2011 and 2015 general elections.
Beyond the newsroom, Ahmadu serves as the Media Director of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and has been a Media Consultant for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 2019. He also holds the position of Secretary for the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), FCT Chapter.
Reacting to the announcement, Ahmadu expressed his readiness to serve: “I am deeply honoured by the confidence Hon. Omidiran has reposed in me. I am committed to deploying my professional experience to foster proactive communication that strengthens public trust and advances the constitutional responsibilities of the Federal Character Commission."
Ahmadu has officially assumed duty at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
