St. Joseph’s College (SJC), Ondo, Ondo State is set for its 70th Founder’s Day Anniversary with activities designed to honour the school’s rich heritage and contributions to education in Nigeria.
St. Joseph’s College (SJC), Ondo, Ondo State is set for its 70th Founder’s Day Anniversary with activities designed to honour the school’s rich heritage and contributions to education in Nigeria.
The school was founded in 1956 by the De La Salle Brothers.
The Publicity Secretary, National OBA and Chairman, Publicity and Publication Committee for the Anniversary, Prince Henry Akinyele, said the theme of the anniversary is: “Building on a Glorious Heritage and Inspiring Generations at 70.”
According to the Chairman, Central Planning Committee, Chief Yele Ogundipe, the week-long celebration will feature several events bringing together students, alumni, staff, and distinguished guests from across the country.
The celebration will start Wednesday, next week, with a walk and an inter-school football match between St. Joseph’s College, Ondo and Methodist High School, Okitipupa at the Ondo Sports Stadium.
The following day, an N100 million Endowment Fund would be launched to be followed by and projects’ inauguration in the school compound.

On Friday, March 20, a medical outreach would be held in the community at the Ondo Town Hall.
A Gala Night, Endowment Fund Drive, and Awards will be held at the Ondo Civic Centre on Saturday.
The celebration will conclude on March 22, with a Thanksgiving Service at the School Chapel.
Outgoing President, National Old Boys Association (OBA), Dr. Olusola Akinniyi, called on members, fondly known as Nobilitas, to participate in the events. He urged them to support the Endowment Fund, established to support the academic development of the school.
According to him, the endowment fund, which will operate in perpetuity, will be spent yearly to support teachers’ welfare, equip laboratories, and provide scholarships for indigent students.
Akinyele noted that St. Joseph’s College has produced distinguished Nigerians who have excelled in various fields, including the former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; and the Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, among others.
Expected at the ceremonies beside old boys are dignitaries and well-wishers from across Nigeria and beyond.
