The management of Lakowe Lakes Golf Club has announced that it will host the Sunshine Development Tour Qualifying School from Monday, April 13 to Wednesday, April 15,  in Lagos.

This landmark event marks a significant milestone in the growth of professional golf in Nigeria and across West Africa. For the first time, a Sunshine Tour Qualifying School will be held in Nigeria, creating a historic pathway for regional talent to access Africa’s most respected professional golf circuits.

The qualifying school is set to attract top professional golfers from across the region, including players from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Senegal, and Gabon, all eager to secure a place on the prestigious Sunshine Tour.

The event, according to Golf Manager at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate, Femi Olagbenro, underscores its commitment to elevating the standard of golf and providing competitive opportunities for emerging and established talents.

Speaking on the significance of the event, Olagbenro stated: “At Lakowe, we believe in consistently pushing the boundaries of growth for the game. We are also supportive of innovation and the Sunshine Development Tour’s Qualifying School is our drive to support several initiatives in this direction.”

This groundbreaking 54-hole event signals a new era for golf development in the region. Beyond offering immediate qualification opportunities, the initiative is expected to pave the way for international tournaments and developmental programs in Nigeria and West Africa.

For players, apart from offering window to feature in main Sunshine Tour in the next season, players would also be able to earn point for the Official World Golf Ranking.

Entries for the event so far has spanned, West and central Africa and Olagbenro added that the Lakowe Golf Club is being put in the best shape ahead of the event.
