Operatives of the Nigerian Army yesterday arrested four bandits who invaded the airside of Akure Airport.
According to sources, the bandits entered the airport runway with the intent to cause havoc.
Following the alarm raised by staff members of the airport on possible harm to their lives and the facility, a Save our Soul (SOS) was activated to the headquarters of FAAN seeking the intervention of the Federal Government and Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development to secure the safety of personnel at the airport.
According to an eye witness, the bandits were said to have pursued farmers from their farmland into the runway of the airport and were seen by Air Traffic Controllers who alerted Aviation security and Air Force personnel. They combed the nearby forest leading to the arrest of the bandits.

An incident from Akure Airport management reads: “A woman and some young men were observed running from their farm behind the operational fence towards the edge of the runway shouting for help
“They had noticed some men on motorcycles.
“Apparently, they were being ambushed by men of the state police, Amotekun
They were eventually caught and taken away.’’
Earlier, in response to a distress call that some suspected persons were seen behind the airport towards Eleyewo community, troops (AVEC officers, NAF and the Nigerian Army) were in pursuit and one suspect was apprehended by joint security operatives; suspect has been taken to NPF area command for further interrogation
“The joint operation was successful as four suspects were apprehended and they have been handed over to the police.”
“We have alerted the CP, the Brig. General of the Army Cantonment, the MAC and their men are all involved in collaboration with AVSEC.
FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku said: “This is the reason the president and the minister have accelerated establishing operational and perimeter fences at the airports.’’
