Suspended Cross River State House of Assembly member Ovat Dickson Agbor has been arrested by the State Police Command in Calabar over wide spread allegations of spousal abuse.

Before his suspension, the lawmaker, representing Obubra I State Constituency in Cross River Central, the lawmaker was suspended from legislative function after the House found him wanting for “violent behavior.”

Confirming his arrest and ongoing interrogation by the police, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sunday Eitopha Akata, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said: “Yes, he is at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), undergoing interrogation.”

It is yet unclear if the suspended legislator would be detained by the police.

Earlier yesterday on his Facebook page, the lawmaker tendered an apology and a statement of responsibility, acknowledging that his actions were embarrassing and that he feels sorry.

The post reads: “I, Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor, member representing Obubra I State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, wish to sincerely express my profound apology to the government and good people of Cross River State over the recent controversy that has generated public concern.
