Residents of Osogbo have been left counting their losses after a heavy rainstorm wreaked havoc across parts of the state capital of Osun State on Saturday night, destroying properties and disrupting daily activities, as a telecommunications mast collapsed on a residential building.
The Nation correspondent, who went round Osogbo observed that scores of houses, shops, larger billboards and government’s infrastructure, especially street lights, were destroyed.
Areas affected include Oke-Fia, GRA, Alekuwodo, Old-Garage, Osogbo Grammar school, Capital, Estate, Sabo, Ogo-Oluwa, Africa, and Ring Road.
At Oke-Fia, street lights poles in front of Government houses were destroyed, roof of police Barack building were pulled off, shops close to the State Fire Service collapsed as electric poles too were affected.

At Alekuwodo, scores of street lights and electricity poles were destroyed. Also, telecommunications mast fell on a storey building leaving the residents to be stranded. Many houses in the area were affected as electric pole fell on the minor road at the area.
At Aregbe, a big billboard fell on a truck which led to motorist to be stranded on the route. Electric poles and houses were affected in other areas as business and shop owners were seen picking up their ruins.
The rainstorm also affected the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, City of Refuge leaving it in rubbles with its roofs blown off.
The church’s Prophet, Olalere Fagbola said: “No block remained as the wind shattered the structures in and around the church premises.
“It is apparent that we do not have a place to conduct service, the devastation coming on the eve of Jesus Christ’s triumphant ride into Jerusalem.
“What a pleasant calamity in the Holy week of His suffering. We trust in the Lord that He is able to honour His word that He would never allow His holy ones to see corruption.”
‘’He would accomplish His work in any way possible and we are profoundly thankful to God for saving the lives of our members as nobody was around when the church building collapsed.

“This is a passover coming in the week of His Passion.’’
Meanwhile, Adeleke in a statement through his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, directed the Ministry of Works, Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) and other relevant agencies to intervene.
Adeleke described the incidents as sad, unfortunate, saying:“On behalf of the government and good people of my state, I sincerely sympathise with the victims of the heavy rainstorms occasioned by devastating downpour this evening Saturday, 28th day of March, 2026 in Osogbo and its adjourning communities.
“I must say that I feel deeply torched and alarmed by the incident and my administration, will,no doubt, put in place, everything morally and officially possible through Osun State Emergency Management Agency( OSEMA) with a view to offsetting the attendant losses incurred by the victims in Osogbo and other communities affected by such unfortunate developments.
“I have also directed the Ministry of work to quickly swing into action by clear the motor ways to prevent further accidents.”

Similarly, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, conveyed his concern in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Olamide Tiamiyu, over the impact of the rainstorm that swept through Osogbo and nearby communities, leaving behind varying degrees of destruction.
The Speaker described the incident as a painful reminder of the vulnerability of communities to extreme weather conditions, stating that, the moments such as this call for collective compassion and swift institutional response.
According to him, “The distress caused by this unfortunate occurrence is deeply felt. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to all victims and assure them that they are not alone in this difficult period.’’
He appealed for calm among residents and urged continued cooperation with authorities as recovery efforts progress.
