Imagine a man rising from the vibrant streets of Ibadan, Akure, and Abuja, carrying with him nothing but an unyielding determination and a fervent passion for justice. This is the captivating story of Olukayode Abraham Ajulo, OON, SAN, better known as Kayode Ajulo. He is not just a prominent Nigerian lawyer; he is a civil rights activist, arbitrator, lecturer, and devoted public servant. His life serves as a masterclass in harmonizing professional excellence with genuine advocacy and unwavering political courage.

Called to the Nigerian Bar in 2001, Ajulo seized his opportunity without hesitation. He embarked on his professional journey at the Federal Ministry of Justice, where he gained invaluable insights into the intricacies and operations of national governance a foundational experience that shaped his future endeavors. Following this, he trained at the esteemed Emmanuel Chambers, led by the renowned Afe Babalola in Abuja, where he honed his legal expertise under one of Nigeria’s brightest legal minds.

Within just two years of being called to the bar, Ajulo was appointed Head of Chambers at Dr. Tunji Abayomi & Co. in Abuja. His innovative practice style particularly his extensive pro bono work for the underserved earned him widespread admiration and forged deep connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds. His compassionate approach did not only endear him to the public; it also catalyzed his entry into the political sphere. He made a bold decision to contest for the Senate seat representing the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, under the banner of the Labour Party.

Ajulo’s accomplishments in the courtroom are nothing short of legendary. In a notable 2021 case, he led a successful pro bono defense for teenager Adeolu Bamiteko, who faced a death sentence for allegedly stealing a phone. Ajulo’s brilliance in uncovering significant flaws in the prosecution’s case not only saved the young man’s life but also highlighted the critical need for justice reform.

In February 2024, he was appointed as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Since taking office, Ajulo has championed transformative legal reforms such as the Anti-Land Grabbing Law, the establishment of a comprehensive Criminal Records Database, and the introduction of digital legal services. His leadership has resulted in significant court victories that greatly benefit the state and reflect his unwavering commitment to justice.

What truly distinguishes Ajulo is his patriotic commitment to his roots. He chose to forsake lucrative opportunities that beckoned from cities like Abuja, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Lagos, and London, opting instead to return to Ondo State. Inspired by icons such as Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, GCON, Ajulo has dedicated himself to grassroots impact over the allure of global prestige. He has generously applied his blessings wealth, accolades, mentorship, and recovery efforts to uplift the people of Ondo State. Kayode Ajulo embodies the spirit of service that inspires countless individuals to follow in his footsteps, proving that with determination and heart, we can all contribute to the betterment of society.
