A joint security operation involving Tiv and Fulani groups alongside local vigilantes in the Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State has led to the arrest of three young men suspected of involvement in recent attacks on communities.

The suspects—Steven Daniel of Nyivu village, Aboyi Kulungu, also from Nyivu, and Kwayi Ezekiel of Maraba—were apprehended at Tavershima village while allegedly looting property after a community was set ablaze.

A community member from Ananum, Mr. Taryuha Iortim, said the joint effort was initiated to curb the rising incidents of attacks, killings, and destruction of property in the area.

“We, the Tiv and Fulani, have agreed to get to the root of these attacks and destruction of properties within our communities,” he said.

The suspects have been handed over to the police at Ananum and are expected to be transferred to the state command headquarters in Jalingo for further investigation.

The Taraba State Police Command confirmed the arrests, noting that it is awaiting a detailed report on the development.

Police spokesperson Victor Msherize said the team conveying the suspects had yet to arrive at the command headquarters in Jalingo at the time of filing this report.

"We are yet to receive such a report. Donga is very far from here, and the DPO we are conversant with from Donga was transferred just yesterday. We are waiting, for sure, as soon as they arrive, I will let you know the development,” Msherize said.

There have been persistent attacks, killings, and destruction of homes and farm products in Takum and Donga local government areas of Taraba State in recent weeks. The arrest of the three militia suspects is expected to lead to the arrest of others.
