President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday congratulated renowned educationist and pioneer of Nigeria’s Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme, Mr Dennis Okoro, on his 90th birthday.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President paid glowing tribute to Okoro’s enduring contributions to the development of education in Nigeria.

President Tinubu described the nonagenarian as a distinguished figure whose life has been defined by service, knowledge, dedication, and a lasting commitment to expanding access to education across the country.

He particularly acknowledged Okoro’s pivotal role in the implementation of the Universal Primary Education programme, noting that his efforts helped lay the foundation for generations of Nigerians to access basic education.

“Your legacy is established in the minds you have shaped, institutions strengthened and particularly your pivotal role in the implementation of universal primary education, giving generations of pupils access to basic foundational knowledge,” the President said.

Highlighting the broader impact of Okoro’s contributions, Tinubu said the educationist’s footprints continue to inspire educators, policymakers, and citizens, serving as a model of patriotism and selfless service.

“At 90, your footprints continue to inspire educators, policymakers, and citizens alike, serving as a shining example of patriotism and selfless service for younger generations to emulate,” he added.

The President said the milestone offered an opportunity to celebrate a life richly dedicated to education and humanity, while expressing gratitude for Okoro’s invaluable service to the nation.

“On this significant occasion, we honour your enduring legacy, celebrate your invaluable contributions, and express profound gratitude for a life so richly lived in service to education and humanity,” Tinubu stated.

He prayed that God would continue to grant the celebrant peace, dignity, and good health in the years ahead.
