President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Professor Emeritus Abiola Odejide on her 80th birthday, praising her outstanding scholarship, pioneering achievements, and enduring service to Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extolled the distinguished academic for her immense contributions to education, gender advocacy, and national development.

Professor Odejide, a renowned scholar in English and Literary Studies, made history as the first female Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan, serving between 2004 and 2006, and also holds the distinction of being Nigeria’s first Professor of Children’s Literature.

She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters.

President Tinubu noted that her work in Communication and Language Arts has shaped generations of scholars and students, describing her influence as both far-reaching and transformative.

“Professor Odejide's work in Communication and Language Arts has shaped generations, and her advocacy for gender mainstreaming has left an indelible mark on the soul of our academic community,” the President said.

He further commended her role in advancing cultural development and promoting educational excellence, emphasizing that her career reflects a lifelong commitment to values that foster unity, progress, and enlightenment.

“As a trailblazer and role model, your legacy will continue to inspire women and young scholars across the country in pursuit of knowledge, leadership, and national development with courage and integrity,” Tinubu added.

The President prayed for good health, peace, and fulfilment for the octogenarian in the years ahead.
