President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated veteran actor, filmmaker, and academic, Alagba Kola Oyewo, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, describing him as a national treasure and a worthy ambassador of Yoruba theatre and Nigerian storytelling.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President paid a glowing tribute to the retired Theatre Arts lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s creative and cultural landscape.

Tinubu noted that Oyewo’s illustrious career, spanning decades across stage, screen, and academia, has left an indelible mark on generations of artistes and scholars.

“Oyewo is a veteran thespian and a distinguished cultural icon whose enduring contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s theatre, film, and cultural productions have left an indelible mark on generations of artistes and scholars,” the President said.

He further highlighted the celebrant’s commitment to preserving and promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage through his works, describing him as a symbol of excellence and discipline in the performing arts industry.

“From the stage to the screen and the classroom, Oyewo's work reflects a deep commitment to preserving and promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage,” Tinubu added.

The President commended the octogenarian’s role in nurturing talents and raising the standards of theatre and film practice in the country, noting that his influence continues to inspire younger generations to pursue excellence in the creative industry.

“His brilliance, discipline, and dedication have not only elevated the standards of performing arts in Nigeria but have also inspired countless young talents to pursue excellence in the creative industry,” he said.

According to Tinubu, Oyewo’s remarkable career underscores the importance of the arts as a tool for education, national identity, and social cohesion.

“Your remarkable career stands as a testament to the power of art as a tool for education, national identity, and social cohesion,” the President stated.

He prayed for good health, peace, and continued fulfilment for the veteran actor as his legacy endures.

“May you experience good health, peace, and fulfilment, as your legacy continues to inspire present and future generations,” Tinubu added.
