President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday congratulated Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo on his swearing-in as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State, describing his emergence as a step towards strengthening unity and governance in the state.
Garo was sworn in earlier in the day by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf following his nomination to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam.
The resignation came in the wake of the governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development the President said has necessitated renewed cohesion within the party in Kano.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended Governor Yusuf for what he described as a strategic appointment that would consolidate unity within the APC fold in the state.
The President urged political stakeholders to rally round the governor and his deputy to ensure stability and progress.
“President Tinubu commends Governor Yusuf for the appointment, which solidified the much-needed unity within the ranks of the APC in Kano State,” the statement said.
He also charged the new deputy governor to work closely with the governor in delivering effective leadership and accelerating development across Kano.
The President noted that Garo’s experience in public service positions him well for the new role.
The 48-year-old politician previously served as Chairman of Kabo Local Government and later as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
He was also the running mate to the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 election.
President Tinubu wished Garo success in his new assignment and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Kano State.
