...sympathises with traders, says repeated infernos unacceptable

...alarmed by second blaze at same market in less than two weeks

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the recurring fire outbreaks at Kano’s Singer Market, following the latest inferno that devastated the food market over the weekend.

The President gave the directive after a fire, which started on Saturday evening, raged into Sunday morning, causing significant damage and leaving many traders counting losses.

In a statement on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the repeated incidents often leave traders in despair, stressing the need to establish the immediate and remote causes of the fires.

The statement said the President had earlier reached out to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to obtain a situation report on the incident, which he described as tragic.

Tinubu was said to be particularly alarmed that the latest fire outbreak came less than two weeks after another blaze destroyed dozens of shops and property at the same market.

“The President was particularly alarmed that the latest incident came less than two weeks after another fire destroyed dozens of shops and property at the same market,” the statement said.

He commiserated with the affected traders and the people of Kano State, assuring them of the Federal Government’s concern as authorities assess the damage and work to prevent a recurrence.

Singer Market is one of Kano’s major commercial hubs, especially for food items.
