...urges continued commitment to unity, development communication

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) on its 75th anniversary, commending the organisation’s enduring contributions to national development and public communication.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, the President also extended his greetings to the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, its leadership, and other sister agencies, describing the anniversary as a significant moment in Nigeria’s broadcasting history.

Tinubu affirmed the central role of the FRCN in shaping public discourse, noting that the corporation remains Africa’s largest broadcast network with 47 FM stations and six zonal stations across the country.

He said the organisation has, for over seven decades, served as a vital bridge between government and citizens, fostering development communication through the dissemination of information, education, and entertainment.

According to the President, the FRCN has played a historic role in documenting Nigeria’s evolution from the colonial era to post-independence nationhood, maintaining archives that continue to serve as valuable reference materials for leaders, scholars, and researchers.

Tinubu further praised the corporation for its contributions to human capital development in the media sector, describing it as a training ground that has nurtured generations of broadcasters, producers, and sound engineers across the continent.

“As the FRCN turns 75, the President urges the station to continue fulfilling its core mandate in line with its slogan, ‘Uplifting the People and Uniting the Nation,’” the statement said.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s recognition of the strategic importance of public broadcasting in strengthening national unity and promoting informed citizen engagement.
