In a tribute marking the milestone, the President described Daniel as a renowned engineer, accomplished entrepreneur, and prominent politician whose life has been defined by hard work, resilience, wisdom, and courage.
Tinubu noted that the former governor, fondly called OGD, has over the years carved a niche for himself through a rich professional career and impactful public service, earning national recognition for his contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Highlighting his early foundations, the President recalled that Daniel was raised in a disciplined Christian home, which helped shape his ethical values and prepared him for a life of service and achievement.
He also traced Daniel’s rise in the private sector, particularly with the establishment of Kresta Laurel, an electro-mechanical engineering firm founded in 1990, which has grown into a leader in elevator installation and maintenance in Nigeria.
“Otunba Daniel replicated his private sector success in politics and governance,” Tinubu said, pointing to his tenure as Ogun State governor between 2003 and 2011, during which he pursued industrialisation, public-private partnerships, education, and infrastructure development.

According to the President, key legacies of Daniel’s administration include the initiation of the state’s first agro-allied cargo airport and the establishment of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.
He further noted that Daniel has continued to serve the state and nation as a Senator since 2023, representing Ogun East in the National Assembly.
Tinubu also reflected on their long-standing political relationship, recalling Daniel’s role in supporting his own emergence as governor of Lagos State in 1999, including mobilising professional groups to back his election and ensuring a smooth transition.
The President commended Daniel’s political journey and resilience, describing him as a committed progressive and a respected figure within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“As Otunba clocks 70, I thank him, on behalf of our teeming APC members and the entire nation, for his service to Ogun State and Nigeria, and his commitment to the socio-political and economic development of our country,” Tinubu stated.
He prayed for continued good health and many more years of meaningful contributions for the former governor, while extending warm wishes to his wife, Olufunke, and the entire Daniel family.
