President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Damilola Ogunbiyi on her emergence as the first Nigerian to receive the prestigious TIME Earth Awards, describing the feat as a reflection of both personal excellence and Nigeria’s growing leadership in global development.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Ogunbiyi, who currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Energy for All and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, for her outstanding contributions to the global clean energy transition.

The TIME Earth Awards, regarded as one of the organisation’s highest honours, celebrate individuals whose actions have made a significant and lasting impact in tackling climate change and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy systems.

President Tinubu commended Ogunbiyi’s leadership in advancing decarbonisation efforts, particularly across developing regions, noting that her work continues to shape global responses to energy and climate challenges.

He highlighted that under her stewardship, Sustainable Energy for All has supported more than 100 countries worldwide and facilitated commitments exceeding $1.6 trillion in energy finance, a milestone he described as both transformative and far-reaching.

According to the President, the international recognition further affirms Ogunbiyi’s professionalism, dedication, and commitment to sustainable development goals.

“Ogunbiyi’s achievement not only reflects personal excellence but also underscores Nigeria’s growing influence and leadership in shaping innovative and impactful solutions to global development challenges,” Tinubu said.

He added that her accomplishments have helped elevate Nigeria’s profile on the international stage, particularly in the critical areas of climate action and energy access.

The President also applauded her steadfast commitment to service, noting that her work continues to inspire a new generation of Nigerian professionals contributing to global progress.

Tinubu wished Ogunbiyi continued success in her future endeavours, expressing confidence that she would sustain her impactful contributions to advancing sustainable energy and climate resilience worldwide.
