The statement said the appointment is subject to the Senate’s confirmation, in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006.

In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu sought the expeditious screening and confirmation of Yusuf to succeed Prof. Abdullahi Usman, who resigned this week after about 14 months in office.

Ambassador Yusuf is a career diplomat and former Nigerian envoy to the Republic of Türkiye, where he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary from 2021 to 2024.
