President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scaling up regional and international collaborations to end insecurity in Nigeria, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said yesterday.

Idris spoke after a meeting with the President in Lagos.

The minister said the President was engaging neighbouring countries and global partners as part of a broad strategy to tackle security challenges, particularly in the Sahel.

He stressed that terrorism and related threats transcend national borders.

According to him, President Tinubu’s recent engagements, including discussions with Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno and consultations with partners, such as the United States (U.S.A.), the European Union (EU), and the United Kingdom (UK), underscored a coordinated approach to restoring peace.

“It is very significant because we are fighting terrorism. Terrorism has no borders… it is almost impossible for Nigeria to act alone,” Idris said. The minister noted that regional cooperation remained central to ongoing efforts to strengthen security and restore peace across the country.

He added that the President’s security engagements have remained active even during the Easter break, describing the period as a “working Easter” for the Commander-in-Chief.

Idris added: “He (the President) just came back from Jos, and security is uppermost in his mind. He keeps talking and discussing with the security agencies on how we can find a lasting solution… in collaboration with our regional and international partners.”

The minister also conveyed the President’s assurance that he is attentive to the concerns of all Nigerians, including stakeholders in the media industry.

He stated that one of the first issues raised during the meeting was the welfare and operational environment of media organisations, following recent engagements between the President and media executives.

“Mr. President has the media industry in mind… Several issues were raised and Mr. President is looking at them dispassionately. He has asked for my input and he is going to take the final decision on how he can help the media to do its work better,” Idris said.

The minister also said President Tinubu had directed him to continue informing Nigerians that their feedback is taken seriously.

He urged the citizens to remain patriotic and united as the administration works to resolve pressing national challenges.

“Mr. President is listening. He is a keen watcher of events… and he has asked Nigerians to come together, reflect and be more patriotic as he works to ensure that issues of security are resolved once and for all,” Idris added.

Commenting on the state of the economy, the minister said the President remained encouraged by positive assessments from international development partners and rating agencies, noting that Nigeria’s reforms are gaining global recognition.

“Everybody is seeing that the reforms are actually working… Nigeria is finding its place in the comity of nations once again,” he said.

Idris explained that his visit to the President was part of routine briefings on national developments.

Also, the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, met with the President at his Lagos residence, where he paid Eid-el-Fitr homage and extended birthday wishes to his host.

Rabiu described the visit as a longstanding tradition, noting that although the Sallah celebrations had passed, it was important to personally convey goodwill and prayers to the President.

“I also took the opportunity to extend birthday wishes to His Excellency… I offered my prayers for good health, long life, wisdom, and continued strength as he leads our nation,” Rabiu said.

The eminent businessman added that his visit to the President was also meant to reaffirm his appreciation and continued support for the President.
