About 10 million Nigerians are expected to benefit from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s grassroots development initiative, the Federal Government has said.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, announced this and his appointment as the Grand Patron of the National Councillors’ Forum of Nigeria.

He said the initiative, known as the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, was designed to improve living standards and reduce poverty across the country’s 8,809 wards by supporting key economic activities in each community.

“With about 10 million citizens expected to benefit from the initiative, the Tinubu administration’s poverty-reduction objective will receive a significant boost,” he said.

The minister explained that the programme was part of broader reforms to strengthen local governance and ensure development reaches communities at the grassroots.

Bagudu expressed delight over his appointment as the forum’s grand patron, promising to intensify efforts to expand economic opportunities at the grassroots.

“I am humbled by this honour, and it will encourage me to work harder to stimulate the grassroots economy for the benefit of the majority of Nigerians,” he said.

Bagudu also thanked the forum for its continued support for President Tinubu, noting that its endorsement of the President for a second term reflected growing confidence in the administration’s reform agenda.

The forum President Abdulrazak Sama’ila, said Bagudu’s appointment was in recognition of his contributions to national development and public service.

In a letter dated April 23 and signed by its President, Abdulrazak Sama’ila, the forum said the minister’s experience and commitment made him suitable for the position.

“Your dedication to public service and to the development of our country make you a perfect fit for this prestigious position,” the letter read.

It was during the forum’s visit to the minister at the weekend that Sama’ila formally presented the appointment letter to him.

Sama’ila said Bagudu would support the forum’s efforts to promote good governance, transparency and accountability at the grassroots level.

He added that councillors nationwide were looking forward to working closely with the minister as they pursue development at the grassroots.
