From Okungbowa Aiwerie, Yenagoa

The Bayelsa state government has expressed optimism that President Ahmed Tinubu will inaugurate the state's 60 Megawatt Independent Gas Turbine project set for commissioning soon.

Expectant residents have lamented epileptic public power supply, with many expressing frustration after earlier dates by government to commission the gas turbine project failed.

However, Bayelsa Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Orientation, Mrs  Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai , assured a new dawn of economic revival in the state with the gas turbine initiative, and expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu will perform the inauguration of the project.

Koku-Obiyal, who spoke with reporters, yesterday, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa Capital, following a media assessment tour of the gas turbine site at Elebele, Ogbia LGA, urged residents of the state to continue to support the state government.

She said:"The problem is the commissioning date, over the months we have been giving dates but this time we want everything to be set and we are believing that the President of this nation will  come and commission it.

"But there are lot of processes to tidy up in this regard, so I want Bayelsans to continue to support the government. You have gone round and you have seen it with your eyes. That is why I always say, don't sit down in your home and criticize but go and see what your government is doing with your eyes. Let us calm down and continue to believe and in no distant time the light will be on."

Director of Operations, Bayelsa Electricity Company, Mr. Steve Bubagha, said work has reached advanced stage, adding that the contractors are working round the clock and putting finishing touches to deliver the project.
