- Issues fresh directives
The Presidency is making a concerted effort to resolve the rift between Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iornem Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, as part of a broader initiative to foster unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Northcentral state.
According to information gathered by The Nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a directive, urging both leaders to put aside their differences and work towards party unity and progress.
This development follows the non-implementation of a previous presidential directive during Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue, where he had tasked both men with convening a stakeholders’ meeting to iron out their differences.

Insiders suggest that the rift escalated after the APC executive committee elections in the state.
A meeting is slated for Friday as part of the reconciliation, with Akume expected to convene a delegation of 10 stakeholders, including National Assembly members, federal appointees, representatives of local government chairmen, and members of the APC State Working Committee.
Alia is also expected to attend with 10 representatives.
The meeting is likely to focus on structural adjustments within the Benue APC, including possible changes to the State Executive Council(SEC), consensus arrangements in the state House of Assembly, and a review of key political appointments.
Also, strategic planning for future state and national elections is expected to feature prominently.
