Troops of the Nigerian Army have susccefully neutralised two suspected armed terrorists during a tactical operation on the dreaded Akunu-Auga road in the Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The troops, deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Auga, were drawn from the 32 Artillery Brigade and acted on credible human intelligence on the movement of the suspected criminals within the area.
This was contained in a statement issued in the early hours of Monday by Assistant Director of the Army Public Relations, 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Major Njoka Irabor
Mr Irabo said the soldiers swiftly mobilised to the area and reportedly overpowered the group with superior firepower, killing two of the suspects, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
"The ensuing contact with the armed elements led to a firefight, where the troops' superior fire power resulted in the neutralisation of two of the terrorists, while others fled with suspected gunshot wounds," he revealed.
Mr Irabo added that operation was conducted jointly with personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps and local vigilantes.

He listed the items reportedly recovered from the encounter with the suspects, including one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile handsets.
Others include: a jackknife, torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and the sum of ₦39,000 among other personal effects.
According to Mr Irabor, the outcome of the operation underscores ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Army to restrict criminal activities and safeguard lives and property across the state.
He further explained that the military would sustain aggressive clearance operations, intensify patrols along identified criminal corridors, and deepen collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders.
"The success of the operation highlights the Nigerian Army’s unwavering resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and movement, as well as to protect lives and property across Ondo State.
"The Brigade will continue to sustain aggressive clearance and exploitation operations, intensify patrols along identified criminal corridors, and strengthen collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders to ensure a secured environment for residents," Mr Irabor said.
He, however, called on residents in the state to continue providing timely and credible information to security operatives to support efforts to rid the area of criminal elements.
The Akoko axis had been a nightmare for commuters and travellers transiting the roads to other states, particularly Abuja and Kogi.
