Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued a kidnapped woman and recovered N8 million ransom paid by her family during a coordinated operation in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, said the rescue, carried out by troops of Sector 9 Shendam on Saturday, followed days of intelligence gathering after the victim was abducted on April 19, this year, from the Bauna in Shendam Local Government Area.
Sources said the breakthrough came after the arrest and interrogation of a suspect who confessed to the crime, leading troops to the kidnappers’ hideout in Padam Forest in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, where the victim was rescued.
Oteh said the troops also recovered N8 million, which had earlier been paid as ransom by the victim’s family, adding that the money had been returned to them.
He said the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Shendam for medical examination before being reunited with her relatives.
The spokesman said the troops had intensified follow-up across the areas to apprehend the kidnapping syndicate.
