Barely 24 hours after, another dispatch rider has lost his life in a road accident involving a truck at the busy Otedola Bridge corridor in Lagos.

In a statement, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) spokesman, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the incident occurred inward Secretariat along the Ogudu Toll Gate axis, where a heavy-duty Volvo truck collided with the motorcycle, killing the rider.

According to him, its operatives, who were on routine patrol in the area, responded swiftly by securing and cordoning off the scene to prevent further accidents, particularly given the heavy traffic volume along the route.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) took custody of the deceased, while police officers from Alausa Police Station provided additional security to maintain order during the evacuation process.

The damaged truck and motorcycle were removed with the aid of a tow truck, allowing for the gradual restoration of traffic flow.

However, the crash caused significant congestion, with a backlog extending toward the Berger axis before normalcy was restored.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and called for stricter adherence to traffic regulations.

He stressed the need for increased vigilance among road users, particularly operators of articulated vehicles and dispatch riders, noting that the agency would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to improve road safety and reduce fatalities across the state.

He said: “LASTMA remains resolute in its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders in intensifying advocacy initiatives aimed at reducing road fatalities and fostering a sustainable culture of road safety across.”
