First: the mullahs. On 14 February 1989, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, then the Supreme Leader of Iran’s Islamic theocracy, proclaimed a fatwa – an Islamic death decree – on the Indian Salman Rushdie, for exercising creative licence in The Satanic Verses, a novel he released in 1988.
For that, the gods of Iran, led by their fuming Ayatollah, declared: Rushdie must rush to die for alleged blasphemy – and that by the Shia rabble, in the global Islamic street!
Four months after that fatwa, Ayatollah Khomeini died on 3 June 1989. Ten years after his death – with Rushdie hiding like a rat in multiple holes – moderate Iran lobbies tried to lift the decree. But Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader after Khomeini, would have none of that nonsense! He decreed the fatwa “irrevocable”!
But on February 28: 37 years and two weeks after the Rushdie sentence? The Bully of DC and his Israel war-monger handmaiden, Benjamin Netanyahu, came calling with their big bombs and fiery guns! Khamenei, fatwa and all, got razed – he with his wife, some of his offspring, his in-laws and other flowers of his holy regime!
Yes, Rushdie on 12 August 2022 – 33 years after the fatwa – lost an eye; and the use of a hand, after Hadi Matar, an Islamist fanatic, had stabbed the writer multiple times, at a New York theatre, in the United States. Yet, Rushdie has survived both Ayatollahs, and their Islamic Republic order now itself clawing for life – Allah Akbar! Playing God, over fellow humans, is the highest form of folly!
Now to Donald Trump, the wannabe Supreme Leader of America – or is it supreme dealer, given his crazy tariff wars? – who too loves to play God!

Trump, as some budding theocrat, the American “Christian” version of the Iranian mullahs, is too far-fetched. He is just a crass nihilist, willy-nilly craving an unconscionable dictatorship, despite America’s democratic culture spanning 250 years!

Yet, the fake parallel is clear: his opportunistic hurrah with the White American Evangelicals, his headless jump into Nigeria to save “persecuted Christians” – guns-a-blazing – from fake IPOB lobby Intel; his racist visa policy for White South Africans fleeing fictive “genocide” from Blacks, while barring the door against his “dear Christians” of Nigeria, fleeing “genocide” by faith!
Still, neither Iran’s cave theocracy, nor Trump’s evil reincarnation of 18th/19th century Native American genocide, holds the key to 21st century global peace. Both bode stark global dystopia.
But on February 28, the vile aggressor was clear: Trump and his America, aided by Israel’s Netanyahu. It’s Trump’s swashbuckling executive terrorism – and it’s absolutely deranged in our eyes!
The stark context, by America’s own CNN (March 2), is spot on: “Trump has reported that 48 top Iranian leaders were killed in the initial hours of the air campaign, including the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. This,” it continued, “would be the equivalent of the American president, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and multiple cabinet officials killed in a moment.”
What CNN left out, in its brutal if honest analysis, was that the US First Lady, Trump’s in-laws, sons and daughters, not leaving out sundry relations, would have been blasted to dust, were a crazy world power to visit such genocidal outrage on Uncle Sam!
So, would doomed American girls, in an all-girl school, aged between seven and 12: as the Shajareh Tayyebeh School, Minab, in southern Iran – 160 of the girls, and five of their teachers, including the headmistress, killed, according to Al-Jazeera, quoting UN sources!
Their crime? They dared to learn near a former military complex! For once, the much-touted American precision bombs failed to sift between a school and a former army base, 600 metres away from each other!

Pray, what if these girls were Americans, not Iranians? The entire Western media, by now, would have had a fit! This is a clear war crime for which America must be blamed. But who will bell the Trump cat?
In fairness though, The New York Times has linked the Tomahawk cruise missile – an exclusively American munitions – fired from the USS Abraham Lincoln, to the hideous child massacre. It’s another blood-stained banner of Trump’s executive terrorism!
Yet, the Trumpian (dis)order is trying to lie through it all. Trump denies the notoriously obvious, while Pete Hegseth, his Secretary of War, tries to hang it on the victim: “Only Iran targets civilians”! – a classic Trumpian lie!
But back to Trump’s new state terrorism – let’s not forget where it all started: in Venezuela. On January 3 – a grim new year’s message from Trump – the American strongman announced he had raided and captured Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores – bang in their bedroom!
For context, this equates another power lunatic raiding the White House, and seizing Trump and Ivanka, his wife – like some Roman emperor, seizing his quarry and, in chains, parading both in the streets of Rome! Even after Iran, Trump is already dreaming dreams of seizing Cuba and its leaders! Where will all of this madness end?
Well Iran, even while reeling under American and Israeli bombs, is merrily mapping out the new Armageddon! All its neighbours, foolish enough to feel protected by American bombs and bases, are seeing their delusions blow up, real-time, in smoke: Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE pair of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with their tony five-star hotels and ritzy airports!

From Trump’s over-reach, moderate Islam, which pivots from ancestral grudge ala Iran, and channels its oil wealth and brain into science, technology, tourism, peace and prosperity, is getting hit! The message is clear and stark: under Trump, America’s famed strength might just be a poisoned chalice that mutually destroys, than it mutually protects! Time will tell whether these luckless “partners” would remain in the bind or vote with their feet!
But history, near or far, isn’t any consolation. In 1980, this same America goaded Iraq to attack Iran. After eight years of no-retreat-no-surrender, it ended in a hideous stalemate in 1988!
Far into antiquity, the Persians (modern day Iranians), before America ever existed, were already playing Athens against Sparta, in the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC), in geo-power politics! The mullahs, love them or hate them, have certainly not rid modern Iran of those ancestral daring and cunning! This conflict could be a long haul, even after the guns and bombs have fallen quiet!
But Trump might well have the final say: “When crazy people have nuclear weapons, bad things happen” – he just told The Korea Times (March 5)! Again, the rich irony is clearly lost on him!
The Yoruba too could weigh in, with biting humour: “Alagbara ma m’ero, baaba ole!” – All-muscle-no-brain, the ultimate coward!
America had better rein in its power ogre before that ogre gobbled America itself!
