The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union.

The meeting is scheduled from Wednesday, 11th, to Thursday, 12th February 2026, at the African Union Headquarters.

Tuggar, who led the Nigerian delegation, according to his itinerary released by the Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, will participate in a series of ministerial meetings, high-level dialogues, side events, and bilateral engagements in line with Nigeria’s commitment to advancing African unity, peace, security, democratic governance, and sustainable development on the continent.

Ambassador Tuggar arrived in Addis Ababa on Monday, 9 February 2026, and was warmly received by Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs. Berhanu Tsegaye, the Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Nigeria in Ethiopia, Ambassador Nasir Aminu, and the staff of the Mission.

Ebienfa, in a statement, noted, “The 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union is scheduled for 14th to 15th February, 2026. Nigeria’s engagement at the Summit will focus on key continental priorities, including peace and security, democratic governance, institutional resilience, economic integration, development financing, health security, climate resilience, and the implementation of Agenda 2063.

“The Honourable Minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from various African and non-African countries on the margins of the Summit, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic relations and advancing shared strategic interests.

“In addition, Nigeria will host and participate in selected high-level side events during the Session, including a Nigerian-led side event on regional partnerships for democracy, reflecting the country’s longstanding commitment to democratic norms, public trust, and institutional strengthening across Africa”.
