The Tanimu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday set its presidential nomination fee at N100 million and scheduled a special convention for May 30, 2026, to ratify its candidates for the 2027 general election.
The faction's National Executive Committee had earlier appointed Turaki, along with 12 others, to lead the party as an Interim National Working Committee, citing the Supreme Court judgement, which voided the Ibadan convention, as effectively leaving the party without a leadership.
They claimed that the apex court's judgment affirmed the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Kamaldeen Ajibade as National Secretary and Legal Adviser of the party, stressing that any action they took or were party to would be null and void due to their suspension.
National Publicity of the group, Ini Ememobong, said in a statement that nomination and expression-of-interest forms for the governorship seat will cost N40 million, while those contesting the Senate, House of Representatives, and state House of Assembly are expected to pay N10 million, N7 million, and N2 million, respectively.
He announced that the sale of expression-of-interest and nomination forms will open on Tuesday, May 5, and end on the 13th of May, with May 14 set as the last day to submit the forms.
He said further that screening of all the aspirants will be carried out on between May 15 and 18, while appeals arising from the screening, publication of list of all cleared candidates, ward primaries for all offices and appeals on all primaries will be conducted on May 21, May 22, May 27 and May 28 while a NEC meeting to approve all nominated candidates is fixed for May 29.
He announced that female aspirants are expected to pay only for the expression of interest, while nomination forms for all positions will be given to them free of charge, and youths and persons living with a disability are expected to pay 50 per cent of the nomination fees.
Meanwhile, while accepting the task of leading the Interim National Working Committee, Tanimu Turaki thanked the National Working Committee for the confidence, saying, “I recall it was like yesterday when most of us and indeed other people that have not made it to the Interim Working Committee were elected in a transparent, free and fair national convention that was conducted in the historic city of Ibadan.

“Since that time, we have set out to do whatever we can to ensure that the confidence reposed in us in that convention was not misplaced. But beyond that, we fought to make sure that the image, then being created, that PDP was going to Ibadan to bury their party, was shown to be incorrect.
“From a party that was struggling to stand on its feet, we fought hard to make sure that PDP remained afloat. We fought hard to make sure that PDP remained irrepressible. We fought hard to make sure that PDP remains alive. We fought hard to make sure that PDP, to date, remains the largest and the leader of all opposition elements in this country.
“I want to agree with most of our leaders who have made remarks in this extraordinary meeting that we have a serious task ahead of us. And I want to assure you, Your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, that my team and I are equal to the task. I want to assure you that we wholeheartedly accept the challenge this appointment presents.
“We shall, just like we've sworn now, do well to all manners of people. And we will make sure that PDP again works very hard, not only to be on the ballot, but to win all the off-season elections coming our way very soon, and indeed, all the 2027 elections.
“I want to assure you, Your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, that PDP shall field candidates for all elective offices. We will come up with a presidential candidate who will not only contest the 2027 elections but also win them for us and for Nigeria. So, in all this, I want to encourage us to remain steadfast, resilient, and hopeful.
“It's not going to be easy, but certainly it is not impossible. PDP has done this before, repeated it, and will do it again. On behalf of the just inaugurated interim members of the National Working Committee, I want to thank you again and assure you of our utmost and undiluted loyalty to the party and to the cause of this nation.”
