No fewer than two persons have been confirmed dead while several other sustained varying degrees of injury in an accident involving multiple vehicles in Ibadan.
The accident occurred at Soka Junction, Ibadan, along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway on Saturday, around 10PM.

Confirming the accident, Spokesman of the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka said the accident was caused by a white HOWO truck with registration number Gombe GEM696XE, driven by one Abdullahi Bashiru ‘m’.
He explained that the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to reckless driving and excessive speed, ramming into other vehicles and pedestrians.
He said, "The Oyo State Police Command is aware of a tragic multiple motor/pedestrian accident that occurred at Soka Junction, Ibadan, along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway on 4th April 2026 at about 2210hrs.
"The Command regrets to confirm that two (2) persons lost their lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The accident also involved and damaged multiple vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW car, among others.
"Preliminary findings reveal that the accident was caused by a white HOWO truck with registration number Gombe GEM696XE, driven by one Abdullahi Bashiru ‘m’. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to reckless driving and excessive speed, ramming into other vehicles and pedestrians.

"The Commissioner of Police Oyo State Police Command CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga commiserates with the families of the deceased and prays for the quick recovery of the injured victims.
"The Command wishes to assure the general public that a thorough investigation has commenced to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that justice is served.
"Members of the public, particularly motorists, are advised to exercise caution, adhere strictly to traffic regulations, and avoid excessive speed to prevent needless loss of lives.
"The Oyo State Police Command remains committed to the protection of lives and property and urges residents to continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information."
