No fewer than two persons were reportedly injured on Monday following a clash between members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party in Ilesa West Local Government Area of Osun State during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The incident occurred at the Isida area of Ilesa at about noon, as supporters of both parties converged on Ward 8 for the exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

A resident, Segun, said tensions escalated shortly after INEC officials arrived at the venue.

“INEC officials got to Ward 8 around 12:34 p.m. APC members were already present, and shortly after, members of the Accord Party also mobilised to the area, which triggered the clash,” he said.

He added that multiple gunshots were heard in the Isida and Ita-Akogun areas, forcing traders and business owners to shut down their shops.

It was gathered that supporters of both parties fired shots to intimidate one another before security operatives intervened to restore order.

Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Accord Party, Victor Akande, and the APC Media Director, Kola Olabisi, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to them were not returned as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, INEC spokesperson, Musa Olurode, confirmed the incident, stating that the commission had convened a stakeholders’ meeting to determine the next course of action.

He noted that no INEC official was injured during the clash.
