Two persons were reportedly injured in Ilesa, Osun State, yesterday as members of Accord Party and All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed during the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s) ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The Nation learnt that the clash occurred at Isida area of Ilesa around noon when member of Accord  and APC mobilised to Ward 8 for the CVR.

A resident of the area simply identified as Segun said: “About 12:34 today, INEC officials arrived Ward 8 for the CVR. Members of APC came to the venue at Isida area for the exercise and later members of Accord Party mobilised to the scene, which led to a clash between them.

“We heard gunshots at Isida and Ita-Akogun areas of Ilesa, which forced business and shop owners to close their shops.”

It was learnt that supporters of Accord and APC fired gunshots in the areas to scare people during the exercise before the intervention of security operatives.

The Chairman of Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande and APC Media Director, Kola Olabisi, did not pick calls or respond to text messages sent to their phones at press time.

INEC spokesman Musa Olurode confirmed the clash to The Nation. He said: “We have called a stakeholders meeting on the way forward after the clash. No INEC official was injured during the clash.”
