Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has been named 2026 Governor of the Year at the National Leadership Awards held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Organisers said the award recognizes the governor’s people-centred leadership and measurable strides in security restoration, social cohesion, and infrastructure development across the state.
Presenting the award at Merit House, Abuja, BJ Opara, Team Lead of the National Leadership Summit Group, described Sani’s leadership as impactful and exemplary.
He said, “Governor Uba Sani exemplifies the leadership Nigeria urgently needs—resilient in confronting security challenges, deliberate in uniting a diverse populace, and steadfast in delivering tangible development. Kaduna’s trajectory under his watch is a compelling model of purposeful governance.”
Represented by Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, the governor expressed appreciation for the honour, dedicating it to the people of Kaduna State.
“This award reflects the collective resolve of our people and our administration’s unwavering commitment to peace, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. We remain focused on consolidating these gains for a safer and more united Kaduna,” he said.
Maiyaki noted that the administration recorded notable improvements in security through intelligence-led operations, strengthened collaboration with security agencies, and expanded community engagement.
He added that the approach led to a reduction in banditry incidents and a gradual restoration of public confidence, particularly in previously troubled communities.
The commissioner also highlighted the governor’s peacebuilding and reconciliation initiatives, which he said helped bridge long-standing divides and foster unity among Kaduna State’s diverse ethnic and religious groups.
He further pointed to ongoing investments in critical infrastructure aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving the livelihoods of citizens.
The National Leadership Summit Group described the award as part of its commitment to recognising excellence in public service and promoting good governance in Nigeria.
