Governor Uba Sani has approved compensation for 189 households affected by ongoing road construction across four major corridors in Rigasa, with payment set to begin immediately.

Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, disclosed this during an inspection of projects linking Rigasa to the Rigasa Train Station and the reconstruction of Zango–Asibiti–Tudun Wada Road in Kaduna South.

He said the compensation covers properties along Makera Road, Ado Garam, Asmau Makarfi and Lokoja Road—routes he described as strategic to mobility and economic activities in the area.

“His Excellency has graciously approved compensation to about 189 households across these four corridors. Disbursement will commence within the next one to three days,” Ahmed said.

According to him, work handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) had picked up after initial delays caused by the relocation of utilities, including water pipelines and electricity lines within the project alignment.

“The contractor is fully mobilised and back on site. Let me make it clear that the Kaduna State Government is not owing the contractor a dime. The only challenge was property compensation and relocation of services, which has now been resolved,” he said.

Ahmed described the Lokoja Road axis as particularly critical because it links Rigasa to the train station and other national facilities, assuring that the contractor would not demobilise until completion.

He appealed to residents to support the projects, noting that the roads would improve access to schools, hospitals and businesses.

At the Kabala Costain–Aliyu Makama Link Road, Ahmed said the inherited project had moved from about 30 per cent completion to over 60 per cent.

He explained that weak soil conditions along the corridor necessitated a design review, leading to an extension of the bridge for safety and cost efficiency.

“As you can see, piling works, precasting of beams and other structural components have commenced. By the rainy season, we expect to complete the bridge and open the road to traffic,” he added.

Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the inspection was part of efforts to monitor progress on the 140 road projects spread across urban, semi-urban and rural communities.

He said 66 road routes had been completed so far, adding that Governor Sani was determined not to abandon any project initiated under his administration.

“The intention is to deliver legacy projects that will stand the test of time. Quality is as important as completion, and that is why these projects are being closely monitored,” Maiyaki said.

Residents of Rigasa commended the intervention, saying the projects would ease movement and boost economic life in the community.

Chairman of Government Day Secondary School, Rigasa Central, Saidu Salisu, thanked the government for extending road development to the area.

Another resident, Mallam Auwalu Adamu, said initial fears among residents had been eased by the assurance of compensation to affected households.

The roads under construction—Ado Garam, Asmau Makarfi, Lokoja and Makera—are considered vital links within Rigasa and adjoining communities.
