UNICAL student loan refund: We’ve nothing to do with it, says NELFUND

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has told beneficiaries at the University of Calabar (UniCal) to direct complaints of delayed refund of paid tuition fees to their school.
This followed students’ frustration over alleged delay in refund of their tuition by the organisation.
However, NELFUND Director of Strategic Communications Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, told The Nation in a terse WhatsApp message on Tuesday that the agency was not responsible for any delay in refund of their paid tuition fees.
Oluwatuyi said: “It’s between them and their school. It has nothing to do with NELFUND.”
The affected students, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of being victimised, had claimed that most beneficiaries for the fund had yet to get their refund.
It was gathered that the university claimed that many students had already received refunds.

According to one of them, the affected students had created a WhatsApp platform, where refunds were announced by the lucky beneficiaries.
He said that no beneficiary had publicly confirmed receiving any refund on the platform, in spite of unconfirmed reports that payments had been made.
“Up until now, nobody has come out to say they have received any refund, yet the school is saying that payments have been made,” he said.
He also questioned the significance of the institution’s NELFUND Desk Officer, Mrs Elizabeth Effiwatt, who was reportedly a member of the communication platform.
“The desk officer is on the platform and sees everything happening there.
“If truly payments have been made, why has she not verified from students or addressed the complaints being raised on the platform?” the student asked
