The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos chapter, yesterday, embarked on strike over delay in the payment of lecturer’s March salary.

ASUU UniJos chairperson, Prof. Jurbe Joseph Molwus, made this known in a statement obtained by our correspondent.

According to Prof. Molwus, findings indicate that the delay in the payment of the lecturers’ March salary was occasioned by the office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

The statement directed all lecturers in the university to stay away from lectures, conduct of examinations and statutory meetings, until the issue is amicably resolved.

Prof. Molwus added that the decision was in line with extant NEC resolution and ASUU’s standing congress resolution.

The statement partly reads: “After following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, conduct of exams and statutory meetings as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience.

“The action takes immediate effect from Wednesday, 8th April 2026, until we are paid.

“From our consultation, the delay is occasioned by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation as the bursary of the University has done its part in the process of salary payment.”

“It seems our patience is being taken for granted by those who are determined to frustrate industrial harmony.

“Please ensure full compliance as the strike monitoring team of the branch will be activated to monitor compliance.”
