The Delta State Government has evacuated 34 of its indigenes studying at the University of Jos following a security crisis in Jos, Plateau State.

The evacuation was approved by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori after the university temporarily shut down academic activities due to the unrest.

Receiving the students, the State Director of Protocol, Chief Sunday Onoriode, said the intervention was necessary to ensure their safety. 

He noted that the students were successfully returned home through coordinated efforts involving government officials and transport operators.

The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Comrade Ezekiel Okoh, said the operation was carried out under challenging conditions, including curfew restrictions, but prioritised the immediate safety of the students.

A student representative, Newton Miracle, described the evacuation as difficult but timely, expressing appreciation to the state government for the intervention.

The government assured the students of continued support and urged them to remain law-abiding while awaiting the resumption of academic activities.
