Lecturers at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Lagos, have announced plans to withdraw their services starting Wednesday, citing claims that their salaries for January and February 2026 were not paid in full.
The decision emerged from an emergency congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) held on Tuesday at the UNILAG campus.
During the meeting, members expressed strong opposition to what they described as “amputated” salaries for the first two months of the year, insisting they would not accept the partial payments.

Sources present at the emergency congress confirmed that union members unanimously rejected the January and February 2026 salary disbursements, describing them as incomplete.

A union insider outlined the resolution passed at the congress, which formally sanctioned the withdrawal of services beginning Wednesday.
"After extensive and exhaustive deliberations on the one item on the agenda, Congress observed that the university paid amputated salary in January, 2026 to all members i.e, Akoka Campus: No EAA payment; Idi Araba Campus: No EAA and CATA payments.
"The university also unilaterally and wickedly paid amputated February, 2026 salary to all our members. The recent action of the university administration violates all the tenets of decency ond clearly portrays the university administration as wicked and unfeeling," a source said.
Members subsequently resolved to withdraw their services from Wednesday until their salaries are paid in full.
