BBNaija star Uriel Oputa has criticised the growing trend of using cancer-related claims to generate online content, describing it as disturbing and a trivialisation of a life-threatening disease.

Her reaction follows controversy involving content creator Blessing Okoro, who recently claimed to have stage 4 breast cancer, sparking widespread accusations of clout-chasing.

Oputa, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor, stressed the need for sensitivity and respect toward individuals genuinely battling the illness, warning against exploiting such conditions for attention or engagement.

She expressed concern over the vague nature of the claim, noting that the term “stage 4” was used without proper explanation or clarity, which she said further undermines the seriousness of the issue.

While acknowledging that the claim, if true, deserves empathy, Oputa also condemned the wave of harsh reactions online, stating that no one should be subjected to abuse, particularly over a matter as serious as cancer.

"But if this is not true, then this is actually disturbing. There are certain things you joke about, and there are certain things you don’t touch - this is one of them. No matter the clickbait, no matter the attention, this isn't okay. As someone whose mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, I take this personally; this is not content; this is real life, so if it's real, I'm sending you strength. But if it's not. You're actually not okay for that."

Uriel added: "Cancer is Not Content.!!! I swear I don’t rate our celebrities.

"This hit Home, because my mother is actually battling this. Thank God we caught it early. If it’s true, God is your strength. Also, if it’s true pls start removing sugar from your Diet...

"Cancer is one of the leading causes of de@th globally. According to the World Health Organization, about 10 million people d!e from cancer every year worldwide. That’s roughly 1 in 6 d£aths. Cancer is not a Joke."
