In a letter addressed to the Police Service Commission, the organisation expressed delight over the elevation of the senior police officer, noting that her track record in addressing gender-related issues within the force made her deserving of the new role.
The letter, signed by WAANSA’s First Vice President, Martin’s Igwe, stated that Ochala had contributed significantly to strategies aimed at confronting gender-based violence during her service as Gender Adviser to the office of the Kayode Egbetokun.
WAANSA noted that Nigeria’s decision to elevate more women into strategic leadership positions in security institutions reflects a growing commitment to global best practices in gender inclusion and equitable representation.

The group linked the promotion to the ideals of International Women’s Day and the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 5, which emphasises increased participation of women in leadership and decision-making positions.
“With this Elevation WAANSA joins the world to celebrate the achievements of women while drawing global regional and national government attention to the need to move beyond commitment and accellarate concrete action that protect and guarantee the right and well being of women.”
